At least 15 faith centres responded practically, emotionally and spiritually in the immediate crisis of the Grenfell Tower fire in which more than 70 people died, according to a new report, writes Ruth Gledhill.
“After Grenfell”, by Theos, explores the response of faith communities to the tragedy. Theos director Elizabeth Oldfield writes that in the chaos of the morning of 14 June last year, the role of the diverse faith groups in the community stood out. Churches, mosques, synagogues, and gurdwaras all stepped up in practical and spiritual ways. They helped with the evacuation of areas, receiving donations, accommodation, lists of the missing, helping emergency services, providing counselling and supporting survivors seeking housing.
