“The War on Wonga” – Five Years On: A Celebration and Challenge of a Prophetic Call
Tuesday 10th July 2018
7:30pm–9:30pm
St Paul’s Hammersmith
Queen Caroline Street, London, W6 9PJ
Summer 2018 marks the 5th anniversary of Archbishop Justin Welby’s challenge to the church to help promote affordable finance with credit unions – aka the “War on Wonga.”
Join us for a stimulating and challenging evening of theology and practical challenge, as together we ask these questions:
- What social injustice caused that prophetic call?
- Where are we now in responding to this?
- What are the new challenges for the next 5 years in London, as together we seek a fairer financial system for all?
Speakers include:
- The Rt Reverend Dr Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington
- The most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury by pre–recorded interview
- Baroness Maeve Sherlock OBE, Labour peer
- Anna Jones, Board of Directors, London Community Credit Union
- Tim Thorlby, Managing Director of Clean for Good
Please be advised we will be filming this event, and we will contact you after the event with ways you can watch these videos again and continue the conversation.
Free admission, no tickets required.
