Heaven, the Bible & Public Theology

Heaven, the Bible & Public Theology

When we talk about heaven what most people mean is something that will happen to me when I die.

In the Bible the word ‘heaven’ is rarely, if ever, used like that.  In the Bible heaven refers to the place where God dwells now and from which God interacts with the world he created.  When viewed like that heaven becomes something that is no longer private and postponed but public and present.

This event with respected theologian Paula Gooder will explore something of heaven’s role throughout the Bible and take time to reflect on what place it might have in public theology today.
