Harries speaks of faith in politics

Lord (Richard) Harries was the special guest at a Theos event at Gresham College on Tuesday night.

The former Bishop of Oxford was in conversation with the BBC’s Christopher Landau at the event to coincide with the launch of Lord Harries’ latest book, Faith in Politics?

In the book, Richard Harries argues, ‘Love of neighbour today has an inescapable political dimension. To think we can love our neighbours without being concerned about the political policies which shape their lives is to live in unreality.’

Christopher Landau discussed a wide range of issues with the cross-bench Peer, including nuclear disarmament, equality and the role of Bishops in the House of Lords. The interview was followed by an audience Q&A.

Commending Theos, Lord Harries said 'Theos is doing a much needed job, so keep up the good work.' Faith in Politics? includes a number of references to its reports and publications.

Richard Harries is Gresham Professor of Divinity. His book is published by Darton, Longman & Todd. For more information, click here.
