The role of faith in Britain today

The role of faith in Britain today

The Clapham and Stockwell Faith Forum hosted their Multi-faith Winter Celebration in Brixton this evening.

Nick Spencer was the guest speaker, talking about the role of faith in Britain today.

After establishing some of the reasons why religion finds itself back on the public radar, Nick moved on to explore what role religious groups can and should play in our society, highlighting their capacity to provide welfare services, foster wellbeing and build identity. Listeners were also challenged by the need to reach beyond their own faith boundaries in the pursuit of these goals.

Approximately 50 people, from a wide range of ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds attended the event.

The Clapham & Stockwell Faith Forum (CSFF) is a local community group that began as the Stockwell Faith Forum, set up by volunteers in 2001 to provide a Peace Tent at the Stockwell Festival.  They are open to people of all faiths and religions, and anyone else who is interested in our activities.  Some of their key aims are:

  • To promote tolerance of and respect for people's differences, and to celebrate this diversity.
  • To provide a voice for religious communities and people to faith to speak out about the issues that matter to them.
