Theos and KLICE: The role of faith in society today

Nick Spencer, Director of Studies at Theos, partnered with Jonathan Chaplin, Director of the Kirby Laing Institute for Christian Ethics, today to discuss the public role of the Christian faith.

The evening event, held at the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity, was entitled 'From Private to Public', and explored a wide range of issues - from privatising faith to privileging it. The speakers argued that whilst privatising faith was not an option, quite how "public" one went with it demanded a great deal of careful reflection.

The evening also gave a taste of two forthcoming Theos reports, exploring what role Christianity should play in public life, and how far specific religious (i.e. Christian) commitments could be appealed to in public discourse. These reports are scheduled for publication in the first half of 2008.
